So Where’s My Snow?
I took the trolley and the el into work today, because last night the weather forecasters were going nuts about the evening snow, which was going to tie up the evening rush. Anyone who’s driven on the Vine Expressway or the Schuylkill Expressway (or, let’s face it, pretty much any highway or main road surrounding the city) knows the evening rush is a clusterfuck on a sunny day. In the middle of a snowstorm, it’s a disaster. While the buses in Philly suck, the trollies and the el are pretty reliable when they’re running. On the other hand, it’s $2.00 one way, which is steep (the highest in the country), the surface routes provide no shelter from wind or the elements, and the wait for a trolley can run 20 minutes. Between the trolley taking forever and my inability to get moving this morning, I ended up late for work.
By about 12:30 PM, the skies had turned grey, the wind picked up, and snow began to fall.
By 1:30 PM, the skies were blue again, and the wind blew all the snow away. All one millimeter of it.
When I left work at 5:30, the skies were still clear, and there was barely a ring around the moon, meaning no more precipitation was on the way.
Stupid forecaster.
