Who Needs to Think, When the Decider Does the Thinking For Us?

impeachment, war December 20th, 2006

Yesterday, in an interview with The Washington Post, while acknowledging that the United States is not winning in Iraq, Bush bluntly dismissed the suggestion that the midterm elections meant voters want to bring the mission in that country to closure. He said he interpreted the election results “as people not satisfied with the progress” in Iraq.

The great thing about being The Decider, and in the business of creating your own reality, is you get to tell the voters what their vote actually meant. Don’t like the message? Just interpret it differently!

“A lot of people understand that if we leave Iraq, there will be dire consequences,” Bush said in the Oval Office. “They expect this administration to listen with people, to work with Democrats, to work with the military, to work with the Iraqis to put a plan in place that achieves the objective. There’s not a lot of people saying, ‘Get out now.’ Most Americans are saying, ‘We want to achieve the objective.’ “

No, that is NOT what people are saying. Your plan has the support of 11% of the people. The Joint Chiefs of Staff, who have actual military experience, don’t want to do this. You say you’re on a “listening tour” but the only person you’re listening to is YOURSELF.

The comments were another strong indication of the president’s determination to chart his own way forward on Iraq, no matter the election results nor any amount of free advice from senior statesmen of past administrations.

This is how a dictator behaves. Bush must be impeached, tried and convicted. It is the only way to save the country. There is no other way to remove this threat to our liberties and to the Constitution.

And your last graph – spot on. But you could add that the removal of chimpy and pals to The Hague is the only way to restore America’s integrity and honour…

I suggest that BushCo. also be tried in an international court. This will lend a little to the multilateral approach that needs to be reestablished.
    thanks/peace – t.g.
