More Video: Crumbsuckers
Last night, Tim Kelly sat in on the Thursday metal/hardcore show on WMBR. I tuned in and taped: it was an awesome show, wading hip deep into the mid-1980s.
After a block of Crumbsucker, Tim mused “whatever happened to those guys? They were just a FORCE.”
Looks like they got back together in August.
The sound quality on most of the live clips at youtube is pretty poor (whaddya want, it was 1986 and recorded with Dad’s old VHS cam), but I found one with live footage, but a studio cut.
I never saw these guys but the two records they put out were freakin’ classics. Life of Dreams, which this video is from, was brutal.

In case you want to check out the archive of that metal show I covered, which is called Blood! Blooder! Bloodest!, this link should be available for the next couple of weeks. (Note: it says Positive Vibrations in the extraneous html due to a glitch in the archiving).
The usual host, Death Metal Jeff, tends to lean a lot more towards current metal, black metal, etc. — lots of it Scandinavian — but since I am so poorly versed in that area, I dipped back into a lot of the late 80s stuff, and involved more hard rock and hardcore (old and new) to flesh out the full two hours. I will say it was a total joy to do a show during a less-FCC-restrictive time zone. Between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., there is a “safe harbor” that — at least in theory — allows deejays to get away with playing songs that push the envelope in terms of lyrical content. (Technically, though, the FCC has issued a blanket mandate against playing songs that contain the words “fuck” or “shit”, regardless of the time of day). In recent years the increased penalties that are enforced by the FCCers (staggering mandatory minimum fines for broadcasters, fines for individual deejays, etc.) have made it tough for deejays who do radio between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. In my case, my show is on from 10 a.m. to noon, so I have to do a lot of work now weeding out all the songs with “fuck” or “shit” in the lyrics — a tall, tall order for a rock/punk show.
Anyhoo, here’s a sketchy list of at least some of the bands I played during Blood! Blooder! Bloodest!:
Metallica, Nine Shocks Terror, The Hope Conspiracy, Mastodon, Fate’s Warning, Exodus, Seka, The Melvins, Stierkampf, Gluecifer, Motorhead, The Crumbsuckers, Iron Maiden (w/Paul DiAnno), Iron Maiden (w/Bruce Dickinson), Ronnie James DIO!, D.R.I., Accept, Nuclear Assault, and that’s all I can remember off the top of my (metal)head.

Sick Of It All and Scissorfight, too.
And the line above that starts “In my case, my show…” should have read “In my case, my usual show…”
