Hooray for the House Ethics Committee!!!

The House Ethics Committee released its Report on Mark Foley (warning PDF), and I have GREAT NEWS FOR EVERYONE!!

“The House ethics committee has concluded that
Republican leaders did not break any rules in handling
ex-Rep. Mark Foley’s improper advances to former male
pages but were negligent in protecting the teenagers,
a congressional aide said Friday.”

YAY! Now everything’s OK again, right? Right?

This is TOTALLY AWESOME. I’m gonna send MY kid to Washington someday for a congressional page internship, since I know the GOP didn’t break any rules by not dealing with Foley the pederast! It was just a big oversight, a misunderstanding, an oopsie-daisy. Next time, I’m SURE they’ll do better! Just like Cardinal Rigali (warning, another pdf) and Bernard Law! No harm, no foul.

Come to think of it, maybe all those priests that got indicted here in Philly a few years ago need an ethics committee like the one that investigated Foley. After all, if totally ignoring warnings that a 50-something Congressman sending text messages to teenagers inquiring into the size of their cocks, or masturbating together via instant messaging, or suggesting that a teenager come visit him at his condo to drink beers together, and perhaps even fucking them is OK, then how can there be any problem with the Church sending pedophile priests to other parishes? Isn’t that pretty much the same tactic: “let’s pretend nothing’s happening and maybe the problem will resolve itself”?

   No one has pointed out which rule they broke, but didn’t say so,that they just lied. If that’s the case, it should be easy to point out for all to see.

   If not, then perhaps the rules need to be changed.
