Nope, it’s not a new Bags album. But at the same time, it is. This is a re-master of a 1991 release, with some bonus tracks, so if you’re a Bags fan (and if you’re not, what the fuck is wrong with you?), you’ll want this. Kind of a rock-opera that makes no sense (in my humble opinion), but shit, it sounds good, and it coheres from start to finish. This is a perfect example of why the phrase “Boston rock†used to carry so much weight. Kind of a punk-ish (but still psych) Quadrophenia, and that is high praise indeed (The Who never used this much wah-wah or cowbells, and maybe they should have). I have to say, I have heard every note recorded by this band, and if I were exiled to a desert island, this is the slab I’d take. This is so fucking good that I can barely create coherent sentences. “Movin’ to the Country†is the greatest song that Skynyrd never wrote, with a solo that would make Leslie West lay down and cry. This disc is a fucking gift to Boston rock fans. Make The Bags famous, people. They have earned it.

Seriously, I’m considering driving to Providence tomorrow night so I can see them at the Living Room (the new one, not the original legendary joint with the bubble window).
Sound clips here, because there are none on The Bags’ website.

If you do end up going to the show and happen to see a really tall guy with grey hair and 1 big eyebrow (he looks a bit better than the description)that’s my husband, be sure to say hello. I’ll be home with the kids unfortunately…
