Fun with American Airlines: “Path to 911″ emails
Hi everyone,
Courtesy of americablog.blogspot.com, I’ve been
learning a lot of factual inaccuracies in the lame-o
ABC “Path to 9-11″ (they watch so i don’t have to).
One of these inaccuracies is that American Airlines
allowed Mohammed Atta on the flight despite warnings
at logan airport. Americablog offers the emails of
AA’s coporate people, and thus, I have written a
somewhat hysterical letter to them (cc-ed to all of
you) accusing them of “coddling terrorists” and
thanking ABC profusely for “exposing UN-American
Airlines”. It’s very funny.
If you have time, please do a “respond all” when you
get my letter, hopping on board the “boycott” and
thanking ABC for exposing this new villain. I’m
hoping to help spur a lawsuit on AA’s part.
best,
brendan

Subject: Path to 9-11 Exposes American Airlines as Terrorist Coddlers
To:gerard.arpey@aa.com, dan.garton@aa.com, david.cush@aa.com, [personal friends' and family's emails deleted]
Dear everyone,
Last night I watched ABC’s very professional
documentary of 9/11, “The Path to 9-11″, and learned
something new: despite clear warnings at Logan
Airport, American Airlines let Mohammed Atta (one of
the 9-11 hijackers) on the plane. This is inexcusable
on American Airlines’ part, and I for one thank God
that ABC broadcasting exposed this fact.
I will NEVER RIDE AMERICAN AIRLINES AGAIN, and if you
value your life and love your country as much as I do,
you will join me in rejecting American Airlines for
good.
I do not know why American Airlines chose to coddle
terrorists and put Americans at risk, but I know one
thing: they will not get away with it again. Someone
should put the entire AA corporate staff into Gitmo.
At the very least, they owe America an apology for
aiding and abetting terrorists
Thank God for the ABC network and their fine
documentary, “The Path to 9-11″ for exposing the truth
about UN-American Airlines. if you haven’t seen it
yet, watch it, and you will learn the truth about
American Airlines, the terrorist enablers.
best,

response from richard Cranium:
Brendan,
Thanks for the head’s up! Jesus, and here I was just getting ready to pull the Expedia trigger on booking an American Airlines flight for my family’s trip to DisneyWorld at Thanksgiving. Well, I guess I can try booking U.S. Airways…
Again, many thanks for the timely update!
BTW, hope to see you at the Young Republican meetup on Tuesday night!!

Response from my brother:
Hi Brendan,
Thanks for the heads-up. As you well know, I’m the regional manager of a large chain of travel agencies across the country which rely heavily on the various air travel options that we offer to our customers. Up to now, American Airlines has been one of our largest airline travel options that we try to sell to our customers when they book total vacation packages, complete with lodging, rental cars, etc.
After hearing about this report from the Path to 9/11 movie in which American Airlines effectively took absolutely NO steps to stop the terrorists from committing that heinous crime against our country 5 years ago, I can’t, in my own personal security as well as a committment to my customers safety, continue using American Airlines as a travel option.
Thanks again for this important information. I’ll be working on a regional facsimile to send out to our offices to notify them of the change in our business structure. I’ll also be contacting my friends and family in my area.

response from American Airlines:
Mr. Skwire,
I think it is important for you to know that ABC had serious factual errors in its dramatization, and we are looking at possible legal actions as a result. I encourage you to go to the 9-11 Commission report. Please know this was a tragic incident in our company’s history and we hope you will be sympathetic to our employees and our airline on this day especially. Again, we are outraged by this situation, and we alerted ABC about its gross error. It is very unfortunate.

Response TO American Airlines:
Mr. Frizzell:
I am very disturbed by your email to me, which
directly contradicts the assertions made in the ABC
broadcast. To boil it down to its simpelst form, one
party is lying. Is it American Airlines, or is it ABC?
In your email you suggest I read the 9-11 Commission
report, which ABC claims the movie is based on. I
just visited the 9-11 report’s site on the Internet,
and it’s almost 600 pages long! I don’t have time to
read the entire report thing! Why on earth would ABC
broadcast falsehoods in a documentary? It makes no
sense!
Someone is lying to me, Mr. Frizzell. I’m not sure if
it’s you or ABC.
Please keep me aware of any further developments.

Response number 2 from AA:
Perhaps this may help. This is a letter (see below) back to me from
someone, like yourself, yesterday, who did some checking…Perhaps it
may help. Roger

Subject: RE: Path to 9/11I read the 9/11 report. From what I read, it doesn’t say which airline Atta boarded from Portland to Boston (prior to boarding AA Flight 11). The FBI account certainly does a better job of this. As it turns out, the plane was a US Airways jet.
Yep, the movie made your airport screeners look like bungling fools, as opposed to being just plain folks applying the security measures for the time.
Frankly that movie is just an unresearched mess. It took me two seconds to find out which airline was involved (not yours). Why couldn’t the writers and producer do the same? Airing such a travesty about 9/11 should be illegal.
Third response from AA:
September 12, 2006
Dear Mr. Skwire:
Thank you for your email.
The Disney/ABC television program, The Path to 9/11, which began airing
Sunday,
September 10, is inaccurate and irresponsible in its portrayal of the
airport check-in
events that occurred on the morning of September 11, 2001.
A factual description of those events can be found in the official
government edition
of the 9/11 Commission Report and supporting documents.

Final email (thus far) to AA:
Thanks for the update Mr. Frizzell. As you can see, I
have cc-ed everyone in my response, so they’ll know
that ABC deliberately misrepresented your airline in
their movie “The Path to 911″.
I also want you to know that I did some research on my
part as well. What I learned was that you weren’t the
only ones smeared in this production. Apparently, the
whole program was written by a Republican organizer
and was planned for years to coincide closely with the
national election. ABC refused to provide copies of
the film to the people portrayed, but made sure all
sorts of conservative radio personalities got to
preview the flick. Former President Clinton and
former Secretary of State Albrigyht were also
misrepresented in the film, as was the CIA. It is my
understanding that Mr. Clinton may be suing ABC. I
sincerely hope you do the same. I consider myself
fairly well-informed, and this movie managed to pull
the wool over my eyes: I wonder how many others now
have a false impression of American Airlines, and how
many billions you stand to lose if people believe what
ABC broadcast. With the airline industry on the
ropes, this kind of defamation can’t be helpful.
I tried to watch some of the film last night, but
knowing what I know now, I felt like someone was
trying to manipulate me. And the speech in the middle
of everything just made me angrier.
I sincerely hope American Airlines doesn’t lose
business as a result of ABC’s decision to air a film
that I know understand to be a fictional and partisan
account of our nation’s greatest tragedy, and have
added both Steve Jobs and George Mitchell, Disney
Board members, to this email.
Thanks again for your attention to this matter, and
rest assured that ABC, Disney, and their affiliated
companies have lost my business. I hope they lose
yours as well.
