Dear Mr. Mitchell,
As Chairman of the Walt Disney Board of Directors, I am sure you take the company’s financial health seriously.
That’s why I’m writing to you to encourage ABC, which your company owns, to drop their “mockumentary” about 911, “The Path to 911″. As I am sure you aware, the film is rife with distortions and falsehoods regarding our national tragedy: it is nothing more than a right-wing propaganda piece, scheduled primarily to influence the 2006 elections by laying the blame for 9-11 at the Clinton Administration’s feet. Numerous Bush and Clinton officials, including former Bush terrorism czar Richard Clarke, have called the film “a fantasy”. It has also come to my attention that your company has refused to provide copies of the film to the people it portrays or to democrats, while distributing it to people like Rush Limbaugh, Hugh Hewitt, and other right-wing mouthpieces and shills for the Bush Administration.
As you can see, I have cc-ed this email to several friends and family members. We will not be purchasing Disney products, or spending vacation time at DisneyWorld. I will not buy or rent Pixar films, or iPods, or anything made by the Apple Computer Company either, due to Disney’s relationship with the company. I have also contacted my local school board here in Philadelphia to encourage them to drop their affiliation with the Scholastic book company, for their role in peddling the film as fact to students, issuing study guides and reading materials supplied by your company.
Furthermore, I intend to copy this letter to my blog, which reaches 150 people across the US and Canada every day, and is linked to by some of the most popular blogs in the US, and will be posting to myspace, which reaches millions of people every day.
I have already been in touch with some of your sponsors, such as Mr. Clean and Symantec: I am looking forward to productive discussions with their representatives, who I am sure don’t want to lose business.
Welcome to the world of the PR disaster, Mr. Mitchell! Is the soup hot enough yet?
Brendan Skwire
