Attacking Others For No Good Reason

criticism, hypocrisy, media, sexism August 19th, 2006

Apparently, there’s a pigpile going on regarding on Jacqueline Mackie Paisely Passey and her rather restrictive (and a bit arrogant) dating requirements.

TBogg, who normally is very funny and is one of my daily visits, is all over it.

Personally, I think he and his commenters are being… well, a bunch of fucking dicks, and for seemingly no other reason than… well, I don’t actually know what the big fucking deal is. If Ms. JMPP’s crime is that she thinks a bit highly of herself, well that describes half of my friends, including a number of people I know from the left blogosphere. You can NOT tell me none of us suffer from even a little egomania.

Here’s where the problem seems to be

# I’m slim (whereas 62% of American women age 20 to 74 are overweight)
# I’m attractive (my new picture has been rated more attractive than 86% of the women on Hot or Not — and the women who upload their pictures are a self-selected sample that is probably already biased towards being more attractive than the general female population)
# I’m relatively young (whereas 82% of American adult women are over 30 years old)
# I’m intelligent (IQ tested at 145 when I was a child, which is 3 standard deviations above the mean — higher than 99.85% of the population. Even if I’ve gotten dumber as I’ve aged I’m probably still at least a 130, which is higher than 97.5% of the population.)
# I’m educated (whereas 77% of American women do not have bachelor’s degrees)
# I have my financial shit together (no debt, perfect credit history, 6+ months living expenses saved, adequate insurance, self employed)
# I have a strong libido and love having sex (my lover *never* has to beg, unless it’s for me to let him get some sleep!)
# Most of my interests tend to be more popular with men than women: science fiction, libertarianism, blogging, politics, economics, guns, gambling, etc.

Putting aside the weight and age considerations (which frankly are shallow when you really like someone), these are all positives. I WISH I had my financial shit together, and any girl that’s into blogging, politics, science fiction, and loves having sex is cool with me. Is it that she’s libertarian? Cus that political philosophy also has a left-to-right span, and she certainly doesn’t seem right-wing to me.

Or maybe it’s her dating requirements:

He should be intelligent, ethical, healthy and fit, monogamous, kind, generous, very affectionate and sexual. No married men, smokers, STDs, or religion, and must be pro-choice and pro-gay rights. For long-term compatibility he should be a libertarian and share a lot of my interests and hobbies.

And this is weird because…?

For travel expenses, I’ll have about $20,000 for the trip, expect to make a little more via online gambling and this blog while on the road, and am looking for a partner who can afford to spend as least as much as me. However, for the length of trip I’m hoping to take I can only afford a student budget kind of travel, so if my partner could also afford to treat for some travel expenses that would allow us to enjoy more destinations and activities and nicer accommodations than possible on my budget. In other words, if you want to stay in fancy hotels in Europe you’re paying, if you want to stay in cheap hostels in Nicaragua we can split expenses.

Again, seems reasonable to me.

I’m interested in learning a lot about the politics, economics, history, and culture of the places I visit — I’m really not a lay on the beach drinking margaritas and reading trashy paperbacks kind of traveller. I’m also interested in volunteering for international development projects, especially having to do with entrepreneurship and property rights.

What. A. Bitch. The nerve of wanting to learn about the countries she visits, the audacity of wanting to volunteer in community projects.

From TBogg’s comments:

What a bitch. I hope even wingnuts would have higher standards.
jnfr | Homepage | 08.18.06 – 9:55 pm | #

Yeah, “a wingnut” who’s pro-choice, pro-gay rights, and has Brad DeLong, Crooked Timber, MazSpeak on her blogroll (among others, and yes there are some right-wing blogs, but no links to LGF, Atlas Shrugs, or any of the other truly nasty sites that make you want to shower after visiting), links approvingly on at least one occasion to dailykos, and was appalled by the racists reporting post-Katrina. Yeah, seems like a real wingnut to me, a real Phyllis Schlafly (bangs head on table). Oh, and correct me if I’m wrong, but she seems to be about as prominent a public figure as my housemate the carpenter.

You know, if you’re going to make ad hominem attacks, use ‘em against people deserve them, like Ann Coulter, Pam Atlas, Jonah Goldberg, or any number of truly reprehensible assholes who are given a platform on which to speak.

Going after this woman is just bullshit, a waste of time, and makes YOU look like an asshole for giving a shit about someone whose influence in public discourse seems to be about zero. So who’s got the self-esteem issue again?

What makes her think that I, a quality guy if I do say so myself (and I do), don’t have my own list of musts for a prospective Heywoodette?

Must swallow.
Must know entire lyrics to theme from Diff’rent Strokes. I’m not sure why, but it makes me cry, man.
When I say, “Who’s your daddy?” in the middle of freak nasty, you better instantly say, “You, lover man”, or I will get Ike Turner up on that shit. Does Heywood J have to choke a bitch?
Seriously, four names? Jesus Christ, pick two and stick with ‘em. The only missing there is a fucking hyphen. Believe me, Sugar Tits, nobody cares about that shit a fraction as much as you do. The Jablomi clan dates all the way back to Charlemagne, and there’s lots of extra names I could bust on you, but I only break that shit out on special occasions — in my pants.
Saturday is Blowjob Day. All day.

You’re on notice, sweet cheeks. Send some nasty photos and I’ll think on it awhile, then sleep, then think on it some more. Oh yeah.

Funny words coming from Heywood J., a guy who’s all bent out of shape (and rightly so) about George “Macaca” Allen’s comments. Racism? Bad. Shitty comments, bordering on sexual violence, about a stranger? Not so much.

Let’s get down to brass tacks.

No tits, chicken neck, and her head looks funny – like it was made out of Lego bricks or something. Still, I’d hit it, but we’re talking about a three beer minimum here. And then, of course, there’s the problem that after you fucked her you’d feel like you had to make her a sandwich to try and beef up that chest a little.

Oh, I just noticed something else… Her hairline starts halfway towards the back of her head, giving her a forehead like an airport landing strip. Four beers. And a whiskey chaser.
Starshark | 08.19.06 – 2:15 am | #

I don’t know what mirror this little clam is looking in…but where I come from you’d have to hang a porkchop around her neck to get the dogs interested.

Ck out her Bahamas photos and you can see the marks on her body…from guys touching her with ten-foot poles.

Also, I’d hate to have to guess how her teeth got that greenish-brown sheen to them.
cbear | 08.19.06 – 2:55 am | #

Now, far be it from me to judge other people’s looks, as I am the most handsome man in all of Manville:
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
… but I wonder what CBear, Starshark, and Heywood look like. Odds are, they’re about a dreamboaty as me, whether they’re male or female.

I’ll leave you with two comments at TBogg’s I agree with:

I don’t get it. I visited her website and it’s pretty obvious that what we have here is a young woman who is suffering from insecurity, a dash of tone deafness in her writing and is overcompensating a wee bi…. er significantly.
How does that make her eligible for an internet hit piece and some of those truly horrific comments above?
Tanager | 08.19.06 – 4:41 am | #”

She seems like a very unpleasant girl. The nasty, sexist comments are much worse.
Sniper | 08.19.06 – 10:51 am | #

Don’t let ANYONE tell you that lefties aren’t just as sexist and mean-spiritied as anyone on the right wing.
A series of low blows for no good reason that I can fathom, other than the woman is vocal and upfront about what she wants in life, what her standards are, and a bit uppity to boot. Oh those horrible uppity women.

Boo-fuckin-hoo guys, boo-fuckin-hoo. Sounds to me as if, for all the cracks on her narcissism,. it’s you all have some self-esteem issues. Was high school really all that cruel to you?

My respect for TBogg just dropped a good couple of notches.

UPDATE: As promised in comments, I’d like to point out that JMPP’s comments regarding single moms et al are reprehensible. I know a lot of single moms, and I am a single father. My ex is a very pretty, very talented young woman, a former track star at UPenn, and the only female track coach in Quebec, and possibly the entire country of Canada (I always forget). Those comments were ignorant and fucking uncalled for, and that’s what people should have been calling her on, not her looks.

I think every single blogger out there has something they wish they could delete (and many of our more dishonest colleagues often do). I know I’ve written some shitty things. But this kind of vitriol toward someone who basically seems harmless, and wrote something unfortunate, I don’t get.

    …or as self-righteous!!1!

  2. Mike Says:

Good stuff, dude. Agree with you entirely.

Agreed, as long as you qualify that with “some” on both sides :) I know I don’t go around saying either of those things, honestly.

Anyone going over to her site to pile on has really got too much time on their hands. But I don’t have an issue with bloggers linking to it for its shock value. And yes, in the scope of things, this post means nothing, but can’t people have a fun diversion now and again?

But I think you misunderstand what a lot of people find appalling. It’s not that she has standards. It’s just that she slams anyone who doesn’t meet those standards, or isn’t like herself, as “not high quality”. Yes, she’s highly immature. No, I don’t wish her ill or harm, and anyone who does needs to get real.

Oh, and your kid is cute. And, I share your fascination with comics curmudgeon.

  4. mrbubbs Says:

Dude, you’re messing with her business model. She needs people to gets riled up and poke around that eyesore website so she can get her pageviews up.

Tolerance and understanding are bad for business, and she’s probably ecstatic with the few extra hundred bucks she’s made due to Tbogg’s link.

It was her calculated obnoxiousness that made me compare her to Coulter — both woman are masters at riling people up. I mentioned the appearance of Coulter/Jacqueline because both woman reference their looks in their diatribes, yet I find neither to be very attractive.

  5. Brendan Says:

“It’s just that she slams anyone who doesn’t meet those standards, or isn’t like herself, as “not high quality”.”

No, I get that fine, and I should and will update that that sort of language is definitely shitty abnd unacceptable. I think that comment was actually worth jumping on her about, but not one single commenter brought that up. And worse, the comments were just plain ignorant. I don’t even know this woman, and poked around her blog before I jumped on her ass. Her nasty comments about single mothers etc notwithstanding, in general she seemed to be an ok if flawed person.

Better than OK in some respects. I mean, I’ve never sought out volunteer work overseas, and barely in my own neighborhood. Have you?

I just think if you’re going to go after someone for the diversion of shock value, there are better targets than an arrogant young nobody. Pammy Atlas vlogs are WAY more hysterical if you ask me, or Michelle Malkin’s “bomb” song, the kind of stuff that makes you go WTF in its insanity.

I don’t know. Given that she makes money on the ads per site hit, I think maybe she was kind of clever. Who knows, I don’t even know the dame.

I heart comics curmudgeon. Check out the Foobiverse some time, its amazing stuff.

  6. MG Says:

I’m with you, Brendan. What’s the point in slamming someone whom you don’t even know. Chances are, those who know her personally have a completely different perspective on her than those who merely surf her site, and chances also are that none of the latter group is ever going to get to recalibrate their opinions with any kind of personal experience. So what?

  7. chris Says:

Nice post Brendan. I wish I had something to add, but I’m feeling a little slow this afternoon.

  8. Heywood J. Says:

I’ve responded at TBogg’s site already, but we can take it here, albeit in much shorter form, because I’m pretty much done talking about this nonsense.

It was a dumb joke. You are reading way too much into what I said. I don’t really “go Ike Turner” on women. I don’t really know the words to the theme from Diff’rent Strokes. Saturday is not really “Blowjob Day”, regrettably.

I like women. I even kinda like Jackie, though she needs to lighten up a bit. As you point out, her politics are actually pretty simpatico with a preponderance of libruls.

What I don’t like is people reading way too much into a dumb knock-off comment, and lecturing me on what an asshole I am. I already know I’m an asshole, I don’t need reminding. But I’m not a sexist asshole.

    Have a super day.

  9. Heywood J. Says:

By the way, if you can find the episode #4143 (I think) of Win Ben Stein’s Money, you can see what I look like. Dead sexy, I assure you.

  10. Brendan Says:

What I don’t like is people reading way too much into a dumb knock-off comment, and lecturing me on what an asshole I am..

That’s funny, I thought that’s everyone was busy doing over at Tbogg’s place. My mistake.

  11. Brendan Says:

with regard to JMPP that is…

  12. Heywood J. Says:

Yeah, that’s true. Maybe Jackie will get wind of all this, go into TBogg’s comments thread and tell us all to eat shit and die for the pile-on. I can’t help it if my middling “what about my needs” jerk parody gets conflated with stuff like “I wouldn’t fuck her fivehead for practice”. Life goes on.

Frankly, it seems that she puts her personal life out there with some regularity, and has her share of stalkers and weirdos as a result, however inadvertently. I actually hope it works out for her, because obviously there are some real creeps out there, and at the very least her strategy has led to some wasted motion for her, fending off these goofballs.

    So….how ’bout that Geezer Butler?

  13. brendan Says:

A god. A true giant of metal, and the electric bass.

  14. brendan Says:
  15. Heywood J. Says:

I saw the final show of Ozzy’s No Rest for the Wicked tour, which would have been, what, ‘87 or ‘88? It was a great show, and the entire band was excellent, but Geezer’s playing was just mesmerizing, his right hand looking like it was flying all over the place, barely in control. But of course he was in total control, weaving harmonically through and with the chords and solos in every song.

    Really an amazing, underrated bassist.

  16. serial catowner Says:

Hearing about that 86% of the women who are over 30 made me feel better already.

Being of the age where people under 30 are still children….

  17. brendan Says:

personally, I am highly attracted to women in their 30s. the 20s are overrated if you ask me.
